Jakarta Residents Urge NasDem to Back Anies for Gubernatorial Return

JAKARTA– Wibi Andrino, Chair of NasDem's DPW in Jakarta, is confident that the public recognizes his party's priority to nominate Anies Baswedan for another term as governor. "For NasDem, it's actually well-known who our priority is; we definitely want our former governor, Mr. Anies Rasyid Baswedan, to return to Jakarta," Wibi stated on Thursday (2/5/2024).

"This is not just NasDem's wish, but the majority of Jakarta's residents feel his performance over the past five years very profoundly," he added.

Wibi expressed regret at the possibility of Anies not returning to lead Jakarta. "It would be a real pity if he does not come back to further develop Jakarta," he explained.

When asked whether there is a chance for Anies to be paired in the Jakarta election, Wibi mentioned that NasDem's central committee is still assessing the possibility of nominating Anies along with Sahroni for the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

"At the DPW, we are more focused on structural consolidation, preparing the party's infrastructure so that once it's decided by the central level, we can work optimally," he said.

Previously, Willy Aditya, Chair of the NasDem Party's central committee, revealed that Anies Baswedan is a top priority for their gubernatorial candidate in Jakarta for the 2024 election. "Anies is the top priority. Next, we have Ahmad Sahroni and Wibi Andrino; others will be considered later," Willy stated at the NasDem headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday (27/4/2024).

Willy mentioned that NasDem's Chairman Surya Paloh has already offered Anies a chance to run again for governor through their party. However, NasDem is still awaiting Anies' decision, which he says needs time to consider the offer.

"Whatever decision Anies makes, we will support it because he is a political asset both in Jakarta and nationally. We'll wait and see what Anies himself decides," said Willy. When asked about the offer, Anies expressed his desire to take a break after the 2024 Presidential Election campaign. "For now, let's rest," he said briefly.
