JAKARTA– The President of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Ahmad Syaikhu has announced the endorsement of Anies Baswedan as the prospective gubernatorial candidate for Jakarta, partnered with Sohibul Iman as the deputy gubernatorial candidate.

Following the endorsement, Anies Baswedan expressed gratitude for PKS’s continued choice and trust in him to be the gubernatorial candidate for Jakarta. The former Governor of Jakarta welcomed this trust and is ready to fight together.

"Thank you for the stance communicated by President PKS, Mr. Ahmad Syaikhu. We are very pleased to welcome PKS's commitment to fight together again," Anies said in a video posted on his Instagram, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

The former Minister of Education and Culture mentioned that he is currently not in Indonesia. Upon his return, Anies continued, he will meet with PKS to discuss future steps for Jakarta.

"I am currently traveling, therefore please allow me to convey this recording. God willing, upon returning to the country, we will immediately communicate with PKS leaders to discuss further steps for future actions, as well as with other party leaders," he stated.

The former Rector of Paramadina University revealed that he has long been fighting together with PKS in Jakarta and at the national level in the last 2024 Presidential Election.

"We have been fighting together in Jakarta, as well as at the national level with PKS. God willing, we will continue to fight together in the future," he remarked.

Anies hopes to continue fighting together for a better and happier Jakarta in the future. After PKB and PKS, he expects other parties to join the local election.

"Thank God, after PKB and PKS, God willing, there will be other parties that want to join the fight to make Jakarta a progressive city with happy citizens. Warm regards to the entire PKS family," he concluded.

Previously reported, the Central Executive Board of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) decided to endorse the pair of Anies Baswedan as the prospective gubernatorial candidate and Mohamad Sohibul Iman as the prospective deputy gubernatorial candidate in the 2024 Jakarta Regional Head Election.

President PKS Ahmad Syaikhu stated that he had received proposals for several prospective gubernatorial candidates for Jakarta to the DPP PKS, including Anies Rasyid Baswedan and Mohamad Sohibul Iman.

"We believe the Anies-Sohibul Iman pair, they have a nickname already, AMAN they say. Whatever the name is. They have the qualifications, harmony, and can complement each other to lead DKI Jakarta," he continued.

Syaikhu explained that they continue to endorse Anies Baswedan because his track record during the first term as Governor from 2017-2022 is very clear. Various achievements were noted by Anies Baswedan.

Therefore, continued Syaikhu, the DPP PKS considered proposals from the DPW PKS DKI Jakarta and listened to various inputs from figures, religious leaders, interfaith leaders who came to the DPP PKS, scholars, and the Jakarta community.

Thus, the central executive board (DPTP) PKS held a meeting on Thursday, June 20, 2024, to decide to endorse the former Governor of Jakarta as the prospective gubernatorial candidate and Mr. Mohammad Sohibul Iman as the prospective deputy gubernatorial candidate.

"Mr. Anies Rasyid Baswedan was successful as the Governor of DKI Jakarta for the period 2017-2022 with various achievements in several development sectors. Successfully advancing the city and making its citizens happy," he said.

"Meanwhile, Mr. Sohibul Iman is a technocrat and scholar who once served as the Rector of Paramadina University," he added.

He noted that the pair both have clear track records, credibility, and therefore a high probability of winning.
