Indonesian Church Community Expresses Aspirations to PKS

JAKARTA– The Central Assembly of the Indonesian Church Community (MP HAGAI) visited the headquarters of PKS on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

The meeting took place at the PKS office on Jalan TB Simatupang, South Jakarta. According to KBA News reporters, several pastors representing MP HAGAI arrived at 4:00 PM, including Pastor Sephard Supit.

The meeting was held in the PKS lobby on the first floor and was closed to the public, with media only allowed to take photographs.

It is known that during this visit, MP HAGAI intended to express their aspiration for PKS to support Anies Baswedan in the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Their request for PKS's endorsement is based on their view that Anies Baswedan was a successful leader of Jakarta during the previous five years.

Longing for a Leader Like Anies

Pastor Sephard Supit expressed hope that PKS would nominate Anies Baswedan for the Jakarta governorship in 2024, citing a longing for competent leadership.

"This aspiration, besides our desire for competent leadership throughout the regions, particularly in DKI Jakarta, also encompasses our hope that the upcoming elections will truly be free, fair, and genuine," he told reporters.

From various discussions, Jakarta’s Christian community has declared their support for Anies Baswedan in the upcoming five-year political contest.

"Especially for DKI, from surveys and community discussions, particularly among Christians, we've concluded that the suitable leader for DKI is Mr. Anies Rasyid Baswedan," he stated.

He also appreciated PKS for being open to hearing their support for Fery Farhati’s husband.

"PKS, as a nationalist and open party, has gladly absorbed the aspirations we presented. We hope to continue building good relationships with all communities and religions, including us from the Christian community," he mentioned.

Acting Governor Is Overhasty

Pastor Sephard Supit commented that Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono was too hasty in managing the metropolitan city.

"I think what has been done by the Acting Governor so far is too hasty if I were to evaluate it," he said to the media, also present were KBA News reporters.

In contrast, he views Anies Baswedan’s previous five-year term as having had a positive impact on Jakarta's progress.

"However, we see what Mr. Anies had accomplished before, and there are positive aspects that we hoped would be continued by the Acting Governor, but in reality, they are still obstructed," he explained.

Therefore, he supports Anies running again in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. "And I think it would be good if Mr. Anies were given the opportunity to continue what had started five years ago," he added.

He also mentioned that after visiting the PKS headquarters, they plan to do the same with the NasDem Party and PDIP.
